What we do

University of Idaho Extension helps citizens improve their social, economic and environmental quality of life through research-based educational programs in response to locally identified issues and needs. UI Extension, Kootenai County personnel offer programming in family and consumer science, forestry, home horticulture and 4-H youth development.

The University of Idaho 4-H Youth Development program is a leader in guiding Idaho’s youth to become responsible, productive citizens. Working and learning in partnership with caring adults, youth are empowered to reach their full potential, enhance communication skills and develop self-confidence.

We offer workshops, field days, publications, and other practical educational programs and resources to help family forest owners, loggers, and natural resource professionals sustainably manage forests and related natural resources in Boundary, Bonner, Kootenai, and Benewah counties using current scientific research.

Food, Health and Nutrition

Family and Consumer Sciences improves the quality of life for adults, children and families through programs focused on food safety, health, hygiene and proper nutrition. Eat Smart Idaho has gained national attention for helping limited-income adults stretch their food dollars to provide healthy, low-cost, quick and tasty meals each day for their families.
