What we do

UI Extension, Elmore County provides area citizens with research-based information focusing on agriculture, aquaculture, horticulture, weed and pest control,  family and consumer sciences, nutrition and youth development.

4-H and Youth Development

The 4-H motto is “To make the best better,” while its slogan is “Learn to do by doing.” 4-H’ers make friends, have fun, learn by doing, gain confidence and give back to their community. Browse our 4-H content to learn more about Elmore County’s 4-H program.

Weed Control

There are 64 weeds designated as “noxious” in the State of Idaho. A weed is designated as noxious when it is considered injurious to public health, agriculture, recreation, wildlife and/or property. The Elmore County Commissioners recognize the importance to control these non-native invasive plants. The Elmore County Noxious Weed program can assist in identification and development of an integrated pest management program for landowners and other agencies.

Idaho Master Gardener Program
Idaho Master Gardener Program

Whether you have a green thumb or no training at all, the Idaho Master Gardener classes will teach you everything that you need to know to be successful. We cover subjects like basic soil, composting, plant diseases and disorders, insects (beneficial and pests), xeriscaping, gardening, organic solutions and pesticide safety, and much more. Look here for great information. Program Assistant: Kim Kovac.

Elmore County Pest Abatement District

With the active involvement and support of the Elmore County Commissioners, UI Extension, Elmore County Pest Management Director Mir-M. Seyedbagheri and his technician David Humpherys work in cooperation with the Central District Health Department and Health and Welfare to set mosquito traps in strategic locations in order to monitor population and send specimens to a lab for identification and testing for West Nile Virus. During the mosquito season (May – September), known hotspots are surveyed and larva-cided to kill the larvae before they become adults. Evening fogging is done weekly to kill adult mosquitoes when the population increase warrants it.

Elmore County Fair

The Elmore County Fair and Rodeo is held annually the second full week of July in Glenns Ferry, Idaho, located in the Snake River Valley right off of Interstate 84 at Exit #121 between Twin Falls and Mountain Home.

The Elmore County Fair has been compared to a Norman Rockwell Painting of a moment stuck in time. We can’t think of a better compliment! Step back into the past and enjoy the old-time traditions of community and family.

We offer a variety of services, ranging from lab testing to pest identification and control.
