Nursery and Christmas Tree Program in North Idaho

This program team consists of Mike Bauer at UI Extension, Bonner County and Jennifer Jensen at UI Extension, Boundary County.

The North Idaho Turf, Tree and Landscape Conference is scheduled for Thursday, February 20, 2014 in Coeur d’Alene. The conference is being made possible through a partnership between UI Extension and the Idaho Nursery and Landscape Association. The program is in its planning stages. Ornamentals Nursery Workshop

This workshop takes place each February, featuring timely and relevant topics presented by industry professionals and educators. This one-day workshop has typically covered areas of risk management, pest management and marketing as well as offered pesticide re-certification credits. This workshop is sponsored by the Kootenai Valley Nursery Growers and the Idaho Nursery and Landscape Association.

Subalpine and Corkbark Fir Materials

From 1999 to 2006, Dr. Dan Barney was the Principal Investigator of a study on the growth and development of subalpine and corbark fir (Abies lasiocarpa) at the Sandpoint Research and Extension Center in North Idaho. The study selected seed from various areas in Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. Work on identifying outstanding selections is continuing.

Certified Nursery Professional classCertified Nursery Professional and Certified Plant Diagnostician Programs

UI Extension, Bonner County has created an extensive 9-week North Idaho Certified Nursery Professional (CNP) program, preparing green industry professionals for this certification.

This eight week program enhances green industry professional expertise and promotes expansion of the local green industry sector. The optional written and plant identification exams complete certification.

The Certified Plant Diagnostician program is an additional certification open to Certified Nursery Professionals and consists of a 7 week course followed by a written exam.
